Greetings, everyone!
This is an important academic year for the Bud Shorstein Center for Jewish Studies. Despite the current political climate, our faculty have maintained a commitment to integrity in teaching, researching, and providing public programs on the rich and broad Jewish story, from the Hebrew Bible to the modern state of Israel.
This year we welcome our Israel Institute Fellow, Dr. Artur-Or Honig, a political scientist who will be with us for the next three academic years teaching important courses on Israeli diplomacy and security. We also welcome Dr. Jason Wagner, a specialist in Yiddish literature who will offer courses on the rich Jewish literary tradition in Eastern Europe and the United States. Finally, we welcome Iris Cohen, a wonderful instructor in the Hebrew language who has generated great enthusiasm for learning Hebrew.
Students! We have a new Jewish Studies major and minor program that allows you to design your own curriculum from our rich and varied course offerings. As always, we have excellent undergraduate certificate programs in Israel Studies, Holocaust Studies, and European Jewish Studies. We are also expanding our new Modern Hebrew language program with an updated major and minor. Also check out our many scholarship opportunities for internships and for travel abroad.
Community Members! We are developing a very fine fall slate of public events beginning with a talk on Jewish Miami Beach (September 4), our first ever program in South Florida, “October 7 – One Year After: What Have We Learned?”, co conference commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Tutsi genocide in Rwanda, and a talk by our own emeritus faculty member Kenneth Wald on his new book, Ghosts on the Wall: A Grandson’s Holocaust Memoir. Check out our events page and mark your calendars.
We have a new, constantly updated university webpage, Facebook and Instagram pages that will keep everyone current with our programming, and a YouTube page that will stream our events and keep recordings as well.
Check out these new features, join our mailing list and get involved with us in 2024-25!
